Does Caffeine Consumption Affect the Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease? A Systematic Review of Clinical Trials

Background: This systematic review of the literature was carried out to see whether coffee consumption could affect Parkinson’s disease (PD) symptoms. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), crossover studies, and quasi-experimental studies were assessed evaluate effect caffeine on PD. The databases including Medline/PubMed, ProQuest, Embase, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov systematically searched. Collaboration’s tool for assessing risk bias in randomized clinical assessment non-randomized interventions (ROBINS-I) used assess quality RCTs trials, respectively. A meta-analysis results not possible because reporting different outcomes. Results: Four papers included this study. Only one study reported significant ESS UPDRS. Another observed no during three- six-week interventions. However, a reduction scores sixth week after excluding four protocol violations. that UPDRS score reduced third week, but changes six weeks. other two did show Conclusions: Since conducted, there insufficient evidence Thus, it is recommended conduct more well-designed with larger sample size
